ANNOUNCES Debut Album: HUMOR

ALBUM RELEASE DATE: 26th February

LABEL: Lisbon Lux Records

Stunningly unconventional producer Russell Louder has announced the release of their debut album, HUMOR on the 26th of February via Lisbon Lux Records. The singer was a finalist in CBC Music's 2019 Searchlight competition, highlighting Canada's best undiscovered musical talent and appeared at the Liverpool Sound City 2019. Russell Louder has also been featured on CBC Radio 1, 3 and Q, shortlisted for the 2019 CBC Music SEARCHLIGHT competition (which showcases undiscovered Canadian musicians) and has collected over 300k plays across streaming platforms with their single, ‘Light of the Moon’. The multi-talented artist has received strong media support from the LGBTQ community as an iconic representation of a minority group. HUMOR has already been selected as one of Exclaim!'s 29 Most Anticipated Canadian Albums of 2021 and Russell Louder has been interviewed by the tastemaker publication VICE and supported by Consequences of Sound and Under The Radar.

Raised on Prince Edward Island (PEI) and currently living part-time between PEI and Montreal, with ancestry tracing back to Scotland, the producer has always been surrounded by a network of artists and musicians that made up their family. To create their startling unique sound, Russell Louder calls upon the likes of Laurie Anderson, Danielle Dax, Grace Jones, Jean-Michel Jarre for inspiration with “a pretty heavy Italo disco phase at age 19”. Comparisons for the artist can be found in other musical visionaries such as Annie Lennox, Sophie and London Grammar

Each artist usually has a distinctive style - whether it’s their soaring vocals or remarkable production style that captures the attention of the public. With Russell Louder, we see the rare combination of both as they introduces us to a cast of emotions and sweep us up into the magical world of unwavering electronic synthesizers and pop vocals. A journey from the dramatic to the gentle - each is remarkable within its own right.

Russell Louder tells us about the diverse and multifaceted nature of the album: “I think of the ‘HUMOR’ as a collection of characters - or these personified versions of feelings, fears, grief, identity, memory... things I often want to reject in my every day. I wanted to make it so that the listener can be both a character and a witness throughout the album. I think the role of a title is to be the door that opens and invites people into the work. The reason I chose 'Humor' as the title for this album is because so often I use humor as a disarming method to talk about hard things. Humor also can have multiple meanings (in bad humor, in good humor, “humor me”, etc.), so that gives the listener some agency over what the album means to them.”
