« Run Away », Star2’s staggering new “conscious rap” release, documents the crushing social and environmental catastrophes that plague our world and consume us with alarm and despair, including the horrific invasion in Ukraine. Woven in his sobering retrospective is his personal sorrow and anguish growing up without a mother and father in a refugee camp in South East Asia – fleeing genocide and ethnic cleansing of his Ka-ren people by the brutal Burmese Army and Myanmar Military Regime.

Part religious testimony, part philosopher’s insight, Star2 directs us to consider what the rest of the world is facing and how they are suffering – also how people are in misery and anguish because of homelessness, poverty, violence, and war. The video asks everyone to “Pray for peace in our world.” Star2 implores: “pray for my Ka-ren people who continue to experience genocide, for the Ukranian people, and for everyone suffering injustice – pray for peace.”

Run Away, Star2’s staggering new “conscious rap” release, documents the crushing social and environmental catastrophes that plague our world and consume us with alarm and despair, including the horrific invasion in Ukraine. Woven in his sobering retrospective is his personal sorrow and anguish growing up without a mother and father in a refugee camp in South East Asia – fleeing genocide and ethnic cleansing of his Ka-ren people by the brutal Burmese Army and Myanmar Military Regime.

The acoustic guitar song begins with a haunting arpeggiating guitar intro that flows into Star2’s almost spoken narrative about the world’s ills and his own hollow suffering, “

we should appreciate things we have in life, appreciate your mama and papa…I’m one of those kids who grew up with no parents you see…it’s ok, it’ ok, it’s what I say to myself everyday…but deep down I ain’t feeling ok, I been puttin on a fake smile every day! I been putting on a fake smile

.”

The song builds through the first verse and at the chorus carries to the arpeggiating guitar’s actualization, along with haunting, filtered vocals, and a sustained bass synth which support the song’s intense emotional refrain: “

I just wanna go away, just wanna go away, I just wanna run away, got me thinkin, fuck the world … this place ain’t safe

.”

Part religious testimony, part philosopher’s insight, Star2 directs us to consider what the rest of the world is facing and how they are suffering – also how people are in misery and anguish because of homelessness, poverty, violence, and war.

“…

So mean, so unfair. People suffer every day, with these hurricanes them viruses. It’s all real shit, killing thousands of people every day. I pray to God to bless this place, to make this world a safer place

…”

He delivers the chorus, retreating to an aching pain of wanting to “run away” and “fuck the world.” “

Hella shit’s been going on! Killing, shooting, people dying

…”

Star2 is an Asian-American singer, songwriter and rapper who seamlessly blends pop, R&B and hip-hop for an enthralling immersion of sound. Raised in inauspicious circumstances, Star2 takes influence from overcoming his life struggles, creating music that is bold, high-spirited and soulful.

Star2 is a true survivor. Born into a refugee camp in Thailand, his family walked over 500 miles through the jungle to escape Burmese soldiers when they attacked and burned down their village. As Karen’s (Kuh-ren), a minority group that the Myanmar government has tried to destroy, Star2 (and his family) has faced immense adversity and racial opposition for generations. With no father or mother by his side, his grandmother was chosen in a lottery to be able to migrate to the United States and at the age of six years old, took him to San Diego where he began his new life. Unfortunately it wasn’t an easy one, as a young kid living in the inner city, his family struggled financially and he lived with an uncle who was addicted to drugs. Adapting to living in a new world filled with cars, electricity and paved roads, he was overwhelmed and overstimulated. Star2 found solace, however, turning to music as a teen, learning to rap, sing, write and perform. With a diverse set of influences including Justin Bieber, Tyga, Chris Brown, and more, he developed his own musical style complete with winning hooks, rich harmonies, and distinctly progressive R&B soundscapes.

Since 2020, the prolific songwriter has released a series of singles and has captivated audiences with his genre-bending music that rings true and respected. His last unveiling is a collaboration with the credited rapper Luh Kel. Titled “I Wanna Get F’d Up” the song is about heartbreak, abandonment, and disillusionment. Star2 paints the scene of painful relationship dynamics that is highly relatable. “I Wanna Get F’d Up” is a raw and authentic narrative of lost love. « I wanted to write a song with the backstory of the best relationship of your life that blows up out of nowhere leaving you wondering what happened- leaving you in pain and wanting to self-medicate. It was a dream come true to do a song with Luh Kel, my dude. Our song is the diary of a toxic relationship with a toxic shawty you loved heart and soul who cheated. Even though it’s hard because you really love that one person – there is at least one time for everyone when after a breakup you just want to be gone – gone from the universe. » The single is an emotional exorcism complete with an infectious French horn melody, somber lyrics, and soul-infused vocals over a prominent hip hop beat. His talent is undeniable.

« Real Life » is Star2’s hit with Jacksonville, Florida’s Lil Poppa. A child of a refugee camp, Star2 and Lil Poppa bond through their experiences growing up in inner city poverty – Lil Poppa in Florida and Star2 in San Diego, California, they both sing “I live in a place where you hear sirens all the time” throughout the song. The urban rhythmic elements of the song are presented in an overlay of classical piano and a rush of strings that bring sorrow, angst, and despair. The haunting ballad is accomplished by an A-flat major chord progression with a B-major melody across it along with rich layers from drums, bass, and a trap drum beat. The despair is highlighted by distorted 808’s and trap drums – creating the feeling of desperation and deprivation along the backdrop of violence in the refugee camp as well as the urban hood. Star2’s lyrics tell us “I grew up in the jungle” and “if it weren’t for the music, I wouldn’t be here today.” He also remembers that to help support his grandma, who brought him from the refugee camp, “gotta hustle on the block…I was just too young, I was just a kid.”

In his latest single, « December, » the song is a romantic song about new love – how uncertain it is, and what it’s like to miss that special someone when they’re away from you. The song has a reggae-like feel to it. “I’m a big Bob Marley fan” says Star2. The musical arrangement is sparse, yet very effective at providing the emotional landscape for the song. Drums, bass, a steel drum/music box sounding synth, piano and strings round it out. “We wanted something almost like a reggae lullaby. The main melody would be something like what you’d hear coming from a music box on your dresser – except with steel drums, and accompanied by an orchestra!” Star2’s voice retains its trademark urban heart over the pulse of the reggae-flavored beat. His voice pleads and pleas – his yearning for his girl is palpable and very familiar to anyone in love.

« Thinkin Bout U » was Star2’s last pop selection. In the music video for this catchy, acoustic-guitar-based love song, reminiscent of the Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah”, our hero is depicted as an “everyday Joe”. A Lyft-driver to be exact, who is taken with his beautiful fare from a chic Hollywood hotel. Star2, as fate would have it, unknowingly meets this very girl online. Later in the song, as he has fantasies and hallucinations about her throughout his week, he discovers the girl he has been texting is the girl from the hotel!

Star2 is an artist on the rise with a disarmingly earnest tone and deep connection to his roots that permeates his music.

CASSIA

Nouveau clip « Motions »

Après l’annonce de la date de sortie de son prochain album, «

Why You Lacking Energy ?

Art Is The Only Real Translation Of Living For Me’

which was also accompanied by an

The singer is from Thuringia, Germany previously lived in both Berlin, San Francisco, as well as London and is now based in Leipzig, Germany once more. While creating her unique sound,

MARIA Die RUHE

loses herself in different sonic realms, never minding the genre and recognising the works of

and

to name a few. Her own sound calls to mind the unusual sounds of

MARIA Die RUHE

plays with the dramatically surreal landscape of Westerwald, Germany in her latest stop motion video. While

Maria

performed the cello for the original single, she had cellist

Diego Hernandez

assist with the creation of the video, accompanied by award-winning photographer

Natalia Luzenko

as well as

. Within the video, the artist explores the immensely complex relationship that she has with her own skin, learning how to prevent the inner rejection and turn her scars into art.

Speaking of the creation of the video

MARIA Die RUHE

tells us:

« When Natalia and I shot the stop motion pictures in the woods, I didn´t know if I´d ever release the material. Getting naked in front of a mirror with 0 degrees isn´t my favourite thing. Neither is dying in a bathtub. But going through that process completed my realization of how important it is to live and not to hide anymore. One body, one life – so better live it!“

kile j share their new ep honey

KILE J share their new « EP Honey »

KILE J

New « EP Honey »

KILE J (they/them) is a proud non-binary artist and performer, based in New York City. Originally from Houston Texas, Kile moved to New York to explore their creative talents, and since then has worked with some of the top influencers in the industry. The multi-dimensional artist has many skills under their belt, including comedy, acting, and most significantly music.

Dedicated to creating work that unapologetically highlights the experiences and nuances of queer people of color, the debut EP

Honey

is sensationally vulnerable and encouragingly heartfelt. Serving as a therapeutic outlet, the EP helped them tackle feelings of shame and discomfort, eventually leading them to find self-love. Bursting with lush sugary harmonies that counteract the bittersweet lyrics, the songs speak authentically of their personal experiences. Taking lines directly from journal entries and text messages, Kile revealed, “I found strength singing words that caused me pain, over beautiful warm instrumentals.”

Speaking on the EP, the artist explains, “There are moments where you can only understand if you’re a part of the culture, and there’s also moments where I feel everyone can relate to it in some way.” They continue, “The underlying theme of the project is to tell black queer love stories authentically; not only ones about loving others, but ones about loving yourself as well.”

The title track “Honey” delightfully showcases Kile’s vibey sound, with it being a fusion of southern music, modern pop and R&B. Smoothly soulful and trickled with encouraging sentiment, the track is a shimmer of soundscapes reflecting warmth, comfort and hope, as they detail the shame placed on people who are trying to love themselves in a world that’s forcing them into hiding.

As a performer, their work has gotten plenty of buzz, with their musical project Trak Joy being ranked on the 25 best songs of the week by CMJ. They were also a featured correspondent for Buzzfeed where they talked news and pop culture while breaking out of gender binaries, as well as being named a finalist at YAAAS FEST: an LGBTQ comedy competition in New York. Kile’s work is currently featured on

Hunger Magazine, Teen Vogue, Redbull.com, Buzzfeed

, and

Afropunk

, to name a few.

Niagara Moon shares his new single « Who Needs Who »

Niagara Moon

New single « Who Needs Who »

Spotify

The track celebrates the empowerment and self-ownership of the Great Resignation. With upbeat strings, sparkling soundscapes and warm vocals, « Who Needs Who » is an anthem of self love.

Good Dreams

the upcoming album Niagara Moon sets out to follow in the footsteps of symphonic pop classics like

Pet Sounds

or

The Soft Bulletin

. Only in this case, it was made alone under quarantine.

It all began when Niagara Moon’s alter ego Thomas Erwin was having trouble getting to sleep again. It was like back when they were a child, having watched that scene from Brave Little Toaster (you know the one…) Though now, it was spurred on by the new daily reality of isolation and uncertainty. However, Thomas also remembered a secret sleep-aid technique that had worked wonders back in those days.

When you find yourself late at night worrying about nightmares, the future, or just simply have a case of Sunday Scaries, imagine in your mind’s eye – in big puffy friendly letters, much like those on the album cover – the words “Good Dreams” beaming back at you.

It helps more often than not.

This theme of “mind over matter” appears often over the course of the album’s 12 songs. After a few years struggling to find their sound with a more conventional arrangement, Niagara Moon embraced the electronic orchestra living inside their Mac Mini. As such, “Good Dreams” became an baroque technicolor storybook of sound, and a welcome escape from the more challenging moments of the last couple years.

While the music remains bright and fantastical, the lyrics tackle some darker concerns head-on. The Divine Comedy-esque “Hindsight” laments on the gradual loss of youth and freedom. “Boxed In” is a foreboding ode to the constriction and claustrophobia of the pandemic era. Similarly, “Bad Vibes” addresses the growing trends of paranoia and misinformation.

Fortunately, the tone balances out with other tracks like “Who Needs Who?”, a celebration of empowerment and self-ownership in the age of the Great Resignation. “That’s News To Me” explores the power of love and vulnerability, and “Surprise For You” was even written as a marriage proposal to Thomas’s partner Huimin, whose ethereal vocal harmonies are also present on half of the songs.

So come along. Dive in headfirst, shed the « Bad Vibes », and find your own

Good Dreams

. They’re waiting for anyone that’s ready, with enough patience and imagination to accept them.

Maidin shares her new single « Celestial Body »

Maidin

New single « Celestial Body »

Spotify

The track features impassioned vocals soaring over melancholic acoustic guitars, echoing harmonies, and velvety-laced soundscapes that gently seduce and envelop the listener for an immersive and heart-wrenching experience.

Maidin is a New Jersey born and bred singer, songwriter, musician and actress. The artist, who took her name to mean morning in Irish Gaelic, crafts ethereal and pensive folk-laced indie pop layered with soft electronic beats that is as bittersweet as it is enthralling.

Maidin began singing and playing instruments as a very young child. Fascinated by the violin in the first grade, she begged her mother for music lessons but became frustrated with reading sheet music. This led Maidin to learn music her own way, pretending to read sheet music while secretly playing by ear. Soon after, Maidin began to pick up piano by ear in church and school, and eventually received piano, guitar, and voice lessons which progressed her natural talent and helped shape her technique.

As a teenager, the talented singer played in a band in her friend’s basement but didn’t consider music as an attainable profession, and therefore decided to pursue a career in acting and joined off- Broadway performances in New York City. After experiencing an abrupt halt in the acting business at the start of the pandemic, Maidin returned to her roots in music, joined a local band, and was quickly signed to Siri Music Group after being discovered playing in the streets of Hoboken, New Jersey.

Drawing influences from the likes of songwriting powerhouses Joni Mitchell and Dolly Parton, along with experimental pop musicians St. Vincent and Sylvan Esso, Maidin aims to create music that captures the vivid storytelling of folk music with a fresh and modern alternative pop sound. Her upcoming releases detail coming-of-age relationships and all the relatable emotions that go hand-in-hand with experiencing love, loss, yearning, and grief.

In her debut single “Celestial Body”, Maidin’s impassioned vocals soar over melancholic acoustic guitars, echoing harmonies, and velvety-laced soundscapes that gently seduce and envelop the listener for an immersive and heart-wrenching experience. “Celestial Body” details a love that’s just out of reach and a longing to be with someone that you ultimately can’t have. Maidin confides, “the first idea for ‘Celestial Body’ came to me on a beach in July, when the moon was out in the middle of the day. It’s a really unsettling thing to see, as I’m sure most people know. I started thinking of the image of a “celestial body” to represent somebody who I would’ve liked to be close with, but this person was keeping me at a distance. A celestial body is something beautiful, that you can admire and love from far away, but you can’t ever reach. Melodically and musically, the song seemed to come out of thin air.”

With an otherworldly breathtaking voice and a natural ability to capture life’s most significant moments through emotion-stirring lyrics and thoughtful storytelling, Maidin is an artist on the rise. “Celestial Body” is due March 11th via Siri Music Group.

black crystal tient le bâtiment

Black Crystal tient le « Bâtiment »

Black Crystal

“Bye Bye Blondie” narrates the closing of a chapter. The artist shares, “I say goodbye to an old version of myself – Christian album Allan.”

, and

. In the midst of this whirlwind, he gained a newfound clarity and applied it to finishing

ROADHOUSE 02

during the Global Pandemic.

Every side of Rayman shines on

ROADHOUSE 02

. Thematically inspired by Kurt Vonnegut’s classic

Slaughterhouse-Five

, Rayman sonically nods back to the nocturnal R&B of his early work. The 13-track album focuses on the musician’s career to date; being signed and dropped, to the feeling of not being “the right guy for the job” and the struggle of finding positivity in all this negative space. Touching on maturity and the revelations that come with it, Rayman becomes unstuck in time and is shown his life and what’s to come of it if he continues to let Mr. Roadhouse have full control. It ultimately leads to depression and unfortunately death.

ROADHOUSE 02

is Rayman being shown his options and having to make the decision on where he wants his life to go.

Following the release of “Rider” is “Bye Bye Blondie,” narrating the closing of a chapter. The artist shares, “I say goodbye to an old version of myself – Christian album Allan.” Oscillating synths ride atop a scattering of different sounds, layering to create a unique sonic landscape, as he sings, “You cut your hair again, it’s new and ugly, that’s what you wanted so you can hide from me, I’m still the wolf outside your door.”

The music video for “Bye Bye Blondie” is the follow up to the “Rider” music video. It is a full circle moment connecting the three albums (

Roadhouse 01, ROADHOUSE 02

and

Hotel Allan

). Allan Rayman is shown where his life leads should he continue to give Mr. Roadhouse full control.

Rayman shares, “Together the songs and video tell a story of an artist who creates an alter ego to handle success in the music industry and what happens when you lose yourself in that character. Ultimately the album is by an artist for an artist. It shines light on the negatives that come with this career choice. With an underlying theme that our shortcomings as artists are our strength; makes for good music – real music.” Slated for release March 18th,

ROADHOUSE 02

marks a new chapter for Allan Rayman.
