Une rencontre presque fortuite entre

Jean Bocheux, Sandrine Quétier

François Pavan

qui, guidés par cette même pulsion de la musique se sont retrouvés une bonne partie de l’année 2020 dans un studio garage qui deviendra rapidement leur antre créatif.

Le Rock & Roll comme pont entre leurs différents univers,

la liberté

est le principal moteur du groupe : liberté de faire s’épanouir toutes leurs influences, liberté de moderniser un son« garage » et liberté de ne surtout rien s’interdire.

Rejoints par le musicien Guilhem Hatt et avec la complicité de l’ingénieur du son Jean Barret, ils mixent leurs influences (Ramones, Blondie, Bowie, Gossip , Iggy Pop…) avec des sonorités plus électroniques (Daft Punk, Suicide, Kraftwerk… ) pour composer une douzaine de titres en s’autorisant toutes les digressions musicales qui font qu’aucun titre ne ressemble au précédent.

Les beats électro flirtent avec des sonorités Hip-Hop, guitares cinglantes, synthés psychés, le tout enveloppé par la voix grave et envoûtante de Sandrine Quétier.

Une thérapie pour l’esprit, un titre qui vous pousse à bouger et à « oublier tout ce que vous savez ! ». Le choix de ce morceau est partie d’une musique du compositeur classique Edward Elgar que, pour cette occasion et situation, le violoncelliste Éric-Maria Couturier, membre majeur de l’Ensemble Intercontemporain, a souhaité réharmoniser et arranger. Éric-Maria et moi sommes de grands amis et nous avons collaboré dans le passé à maintes reprises. C’était l’occasion parfaite pour finalement enregistrer quelque chose ensemble. Sur ce titre j’ai écrit un texte qui parle de la renaissance après une période d’intensité profonde à tout point de vue dans la, une, vie.

L’illustration/vidéo a été faite par une amie japonaise d’Éric-Maria Couturier, Tomoko Furukawa.

Le compositeur et parolier David Linx revient avec Be My Guest, un album de partage, car il contient quinze duos avec des personnalités aussi différentes que Tigran Hamasyan, Or Solomon, Hamilton De Holanda, Trevor Baldwin, Nguyên Lê, Eric-Maria Couturier, Bart Quartier, Diederik Wissels, Rani Weatherby, Peter Hertmans, Gustavo Beytelmann , Marc Ducret, Ran Blake, Theo Bleckmann et Magic Malik.

Bruxellois de culture mais parisien d’adoption, formé au contact de grands musiciens américains, David Linx est, sinon le plus grand (citation de Jazz Magazine), en tout cas l’un des plus formidables chanteurs de jazz que l’on puisse entendre, doublé d’un homme de scène au grand cœur !

Ses premiers succès discographiques sur le fameux Label Bleu à la fin des années 90, en tandem avec le pianiste Diederik Wissels, ont définitivement renouvelé le jazz vocal et inspiré toute une génération de musiciens. David Linx a reçu récemment le prix Octave d’Honneur en Belgique pour l’ensemble de sa carrière, le prix Edison pour le meilleur album de l’année et a été de nombreuses fois récompensé en France : prix Charles Cros, prix de l’Académie du Jazz, Victoires du Jazz.

Ses collaborations avec Paolo Fresu, (Heartland) ou avec des musiciens tels que Armel Dupas, André Cecarelli, Guillaume de Chassy… comptent parmi les plus belles réussites du jazz actuel, dans une veine romantique et moderne à la fois.

« Ces duos sont une façon de continuer à évoluer encore et toujours et me rappellent ma jeunesse lorsque je me ruais sur tout ce que je ne connaissais pas, avec une curiosité qui est toujours intacte.

Ce projet montre toute la richesse de l’environnement sonore dans lequel j’ai grandi. J’ai donc fait appel à un magnifique groupe de musiciens pour explorer et partager cette pensée ; des artistes que je respecte profondément et avec lesquel(le)s je partage une forte amitié et une vision commune du comment et du pourquoi faire de la musique.

“Late Night Calls” is sensual, vulnerable and sexy. Revolving around heartbreak, the track is brooding and seductive, yet uplifted with unexpected sonics compelling you to dance.

Imogen Mahdavi may have grown up in humble beginnings, but the East Londoners music has been her escape into an optimistic future with her bright sound. Her poetic songwriting is deeply connected to the feelings ‘we’ve all experienced and haven’t found the words to say out loud’ accompanied by a voice that is something truly unique.

Her soothing calm tone is both self-assured and easy to drift the night away with romanticism. Against the backdrop of soaring harmonies, the dream pop singer has found her own lane carving a sound that is both sensual, strong, and incredibly original. Without making any artistic compromises and featuring bold and sexy live horns, Mahdavi expresses, “This is a really exciting era for me. It feels like the start of the artist I’ve been searching to become. Late Night Calls is my first real heartbreak record. I’ve always written about my relationship with myself, my loved ones, and happy romantic memories, but this year tested me. It’s about watching the person you love, moving on with someone new, literally a nightmare of happiness in front of me.”

Ceci étant, Charlie Pâle a pris son destin en main en décidant de ne pas subir la fatalité de son milieu social. Il a donc quitté l’école avant le bac pour aller travailler à l’usine, et s’est servi de la musique comme exutoire, pour se donner la force d’aller vers son vrai lui.

type energy in sections of the production.

Solidly embossed within the music business, Brooklyn based artist stevexcooper has credits in writing, recording and performing, with his experience spanning nearly 20 years. His former projects have secured both an indie deal and a major deal (Atlantic Records), as well as collaborations with Grammy nominees (Ricky Reed, Nolan Lambroza) and supporting artists like M.I.A., Royal Blood, Incubus and Biffy Clyro, verifying his incessant drive and indisputable skill.

Launched in 2020, the stevexcooper artist project was created as a companion piece to his production work in New York, London, and Los Angeles, with Cooper sharing, “

My goal is to develop an international sonic identity across the production work and artist releases.”

Best described as left-wing rap and pop, his music bends stereotypical genres, creating dynamic beats and a uniquely exclusive sound. Tapping into some of his more aggressive electronic influences like SLIKBACK, Giant Swan, and Avon Terror Corps, Cooper reveals,

“I grew up on Aphex Twin and Squarepusher and other artists who captured the sound of worlds breaking. I think this song does that, too.”

Four years in the making, the new track “Never silent.” is one of the first songs created between stevexcooper and LIFEOFTHOM after they met in 2018. Coming up with the beat whilst sat outside a coffee shop in Echo Park, Los Angeles, the track is a jungle of multi-layered electronics and reverberating beats. LIFEOFTHOM’s vocals hear him reach a new light while retaining his undeniable grit, emanating

Yeezus

type energy in sections of the production.

Tackling the topic of violence in both the song and the video (directed by Charles Billot at Porter Studios in Brooklyn), Cooper explained,

“We wanted to address violence but with nuance, hinting at its origins and necessity for both survival and affecting change. The lyrics are true to LIFEOFTHOM’s experience but also elicit a type of revolutionary feeling centered on protecting and standing up for yourself and what you believe in.”

Cooper has previously co-produced London’s ATO (MCMXCV) alongside platinum artist EDEN, which garnered on-air support from pop star Tom Grennan and multiple BBC Radio 1 DJs, as well as adding creative director to his resume for L.A. pop singer, sophiemarie.b (300 Entertainment/Crowned), whom he also executive produces. With an endless list of credits to his name, he is definitely one to watch this coming year.
