‘Miles Away’ Single
LABEL: Uppwind Records
Norwegian duo Kasket Club have teamed up with Soul Gem to release their latest single, ‘Miles Away’ along with B-side of ‘Self Control’ on 24 January via Uppwind Records. ‘Miles Away’ was premiered via CLASH Magazine. Kasket Club, spearheads of the Chillwave genre, have been featured by the likes of Majestic Casual, Aviencloud, FunkyPanda, alexrainbirdMusic, HillyDilly, FrenchShuffle, This Is My Jam and reached #1 on Hype Machine several times. As a result, they have amassed over 10.7 million plays across streaming platforms and airplay around the globe. The two will be returning to the music scene after a four-year hiatus. New York-based Soul Gem has previously teamed up with Norwegian rapper and producer Pasha (compared to Pharrell Williams) touring the globe and collecting millions of plays together.
Inspiration can come from a variety of walks of life. For Kasket Club and Soul Gem, it can be found in renowned artists such as Toro y Moi, Washed Out and Tame Impala. The resulting sound draws parallels to acts such as Jungle, Parcels, Poolside while maintaining each of the collaborator’s individuality.
Presenting an upbeat, modern take on indie disco, Kasket Club and Soul Gem radiate positive vibes with ‘Miles Away’. Taking sample aesthetics, flanger-y and phased guitars and drums, the track carries aspects of French House paired with vintage disco with a sprinkling of indie-pop thrown into the mix. ‘Self Control’ brings an “emotional balance” to the release, with a calming and organic production. With soulful piano chords and laidback guitar riffs paired with lofi-vocals, nostalgia and melancholy are rife throughout.
Kasket Club reveals a little more about the two songs, “This release came as a result of playing around in the studio this summer. We had been playing around with several ideas which came out really different in terms of energy and style, mixing our vocals and productions. In many ways, the sound of ‘Miles Away’ serves as a blueprint for both of our work going forward, combining french house sample vibe with indie-pop.”
Continuing, Kasket Club tells us, “During that same time, we played around with a low fi indie-folk tune with the sole aim of making something sweet and peaceful. Even though the sound and structure is quite rough, we really felt it caught the energy we were trying to portray, so we felt (‘Self Control’) would be a nice "b-side" to balance out the ‘Miles Away’.”
