Cherry Lena is an alternative Pop R&B singer-songwriter from Montreal, Canada. Having first captured the attention of audiences with her performances on The Voice Quebec in 2018, she has since been making a name for her stunning combination of warm R&B tones and subtle 1950’s jazz vocals. Her music is rich and timeless, resulting in a sound which effortlessly displays the musician’s undeniable talent and passionate delivery.

Her latest single “Sad Boy” narrates being purely infatuated with a certain person, but eventually realising that you probably spent too much time fantasizing about them, rather than getting to know them in the real world. Lena confides, “It’s about a Sad boy I met last fall. He fascinated me. I think in great part because I simply didn’t understand him. At the time, I didn’t realize how greatly I had romanticized the idea of him. I still remember the times when we would text each other for hours like highschool kids and how it made me feel. Although, nothing about the idea I created of him in my head ended up being as great as who he was in reality. I often find things to be better in my imagination.”

“Sad Boy” was written the day Lena realized that this boy was going to be nothing but another disappointment. She explains, “I was in such a bad mood and it felt like no song could match the exact way I was feeling.” The reflective song sees Lena migrating into a more alternative pop sound, as she discovers new aspects of her own style. Showcasing her stunning falsetto vocals, this release reveals an entire new side to the artist than we have ever seen before. With simple instrumentation, her vocals soar atop delicate guitar arrangements, before kicking into an ardent percussion section.

Hoping her music will allow others to feel their emotions, she encourages people to not see their pain as a weakness but as something that makes them grow into the elevated version of themselves. Racking up an impressive amount of streams on Spotify, the artist continues to win over the hearts of listeners across the globe. Her cover of

Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” in collaboration with Apashe

has received more than eight million views on YouTube alone. Proving to be a force to be reckoned with, expect to see a lot more from Cherry Lena.

Soy Sarita

Nouveau single « Vida Loca »

Ecouter

New single « I Should Lose You »

Spotify

Introducing Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based indie dream/pop artist Jenny Kern. With a magnetic vocal style and emotively piercing lyricism, Kern’s music has been amassing plenty of attention around the globe. Having originally started as a Page at NBC, Kern then went on to work for acclaimed filmmakers Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig, before eventually becoming a producer in the film and television industry. In 2018 Kern decided to take a leap of faith and pursue her passion for music full time.

Drawing on personal experiences, her songs unfold through a confessional-style delivery revealing the strength that can only come through vulnerability. Exploring what it means to be human and everything from anxiety, depression, getting older, interpersonal relationships, gratitude, love and loss, Kern confides,”I think most people assume that my music skews toward lyrical sadness but I always try to inject a hopeful undercurrent to it. I want people to feel like there’s hope and just because something feels heavy doesn’t mean that it’s going to be that way forever.”

Heavily inspired by the likes of The 1975, Chelsea Cutler, and Maggie Rogers, her latest single “I Should Lose You” narrates falling out of love with someone and eventually realizing that you need to let them go. In Kern’s words, “The relationship was failing and it became so one-sided. It’s easy to realize that you no longer have feelings for someone but it’s the intrinsic difficulty of hurting them that makes it so hard.”

Working with producers Andy Seltzer (Maggie Rogers, Chelsea Cutler) and Carson Cody (Valley, joan) “I Should Lose You” offers a euphoric, honest exploration into love and what it really means to be human. Tapping into feelings of anxiety, sadness and frustration, the song showcases a more pop-leaning sound for the singer/songwriter, with cascading synths, colorful, vibrant melodies and a throbbing bassline providing the backdrop for her soaring vocals.

With features on MTV, ABC and the CW, Kern has found herself connecting with major industry producers and writers. Recent months have also seen Kern’s music placed on several Spotify editorial playlists including Fresh Finds, Indie All-Stars and New Music Friday which collectively have over a million followers. Garnering a global audience and management in Broadway producer Kevin McCollum and original Glee producer Michael Novick, Kern is set to do some incredible things this year!

Lyhre shares her new single « Parasite »

Lyhre

New single « Parasite »

Spotify

Lyhre is the solo project of Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, producer and composer Anitha Kandasamy. Based on her classical piano and vocal education, she experiments with sound synthesis and composition at the intersection of digital and analog, contrasting her voice with dark musical elements to create hybrid pop. With influences ranging from electronica, alternative/rock and pop, Lyhre’s boundaries of genres and her identity stay entirely fluid.

She works transdisciplinary in performance art, sound design and multimedia projects and has been at Deutsches Theater Berlin, Volksbühne Berlin, as well as part of collaborative works with hmtmh (Hannover), Zhdk (Zurich) and is an artist at Modularfield Records. Her Debut EP is part of the Netflix series “ELITE”. In 2017 she formed a collective alongside artist Katja Gaudard, in which they create works primarily based on artistic, but also sociological, philosophical and technical explorations. They received a project-based scholarship for their work on Judith Butler’s “The Force Of Nonviolence”.

Lyhres new works are supported by Initiative Musik gGmbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media.

Her latest single “Parasite” was produced by award-winning artist/composer Robot Koch and sonically subsumes the feeling of strength in fragility. Dancing delicately between experimental pop and heavy, dark alternative, the song features cinematic soundscapes and haunting emotion-fueled vocals with an overall gothic atmosphere. Rumbling instrumentation sets a sinister tone, while Lyhre’s layered, echoing vocals soar as she sings, “You nested inside of me, like a parasite, now I’m bleeding you out till there’s nothing left of you.”

“Parasite” came about when Lyhre saw a call for young writers to submit a text on how to conquer the future. She explains, “I saw it and felt that something deeply irritated me about it, so I wrote a text titled « Let’s not conquer the future » which turned into a kind of mini-manifesto for overcoming our form of existence and, in my arrogant solitude, of course never sent it… Later, though, based on emerging bioethical questions and the resulting polemical conceptual equation of « weak » and vulnerable as a physical phenomenon, I dealt with it again. With a focus on the ambivalence of borders, implying on the one hand a protective « identity structure » and on the other hand the simultaneous demarcation and mutual production of normative expectations.” So I started to explore normalized categories in relation to identity and vulnerability, in order to negotiate them in the context of a reflection of the label « human », in a pop cultural setting. This interdisciplinary project is now receiving support from the Initiative Musik.”

In “Parasite”, the parasitic way of living, i.e.. the preservation of livelihood for self-preservation, respectively the exploitation of others (organisms), is used as a metaphor. Thereby partial aspects of (queer-)feminist posthumanism are spotlighted and at the same time the song is also representative for any abusive relationship and a lustful (self-destructive) overcoming of it. Lyhre continues, “I think this is made clear by the biological context of the term. The cohabitation of two organisms for one-sided benefit is thus called parasitism. What distinguishes parasitism from others is that parasites do not necessarily kill their hosts, but rather use them systematically. A dead host is useless to the parasite. Accordingly, there is the parasite and the system that sustains the parasite.” The song “Parasite” therefore becomes a question of what chance lies in overcoming the Self.

Hoping to inspire others to have the courage to see something different than the seemingly inevitable, the songwriter reveals how the perfect time to listen to “Parasite” is when the rain hits your naked skin, as she shares, “We always think that there is this boundary between me and you, or subject and nature, forgetting that all our skin is perforated…. So when it rains and for anyone writhing out of an abusive relationship. For anyone who is overcoming, has overcome, or will overcome something or someone, Parasite is rain on your skin that may make you less lonely for a moment.”

Private Island

New EP « Valleyheart »

Spotify

Bursting with energy and euphonious enthusiasm, their new EP showcases the very best of their musical experimentation.

Southern California alt/rock artist Private Island inspires with their whimsical flair to songwriting, lyrical ingenuity inspired by ‘in-jokes’ and tales of good and bad times with friends. Organically forming in the summer of 2013, they united to form an alt/rock realm of tunes with current front-man Christian Lum, Tommy Nickerson, and Cameron Anderson.

Their forthcoming

Valleyheart

EP gives a sense of that playful spirit; reverberating with boisterous percussion, energetic guitar riffs and hazy vocals that listeners have come to adore. Showcasing the band’s true vision and identity, the release covers a wide spectrum of emotions and experimentation, with the end sound evolving into something unexpected. Speaking on the EP, they reveal, “The first sounds you hear on the EP are pretty ethereal.” With tracks that lend themselves to a selection of scenarios, they continue, “I think there’s a couple that are hypey tunes for on the way to a party, and other tunes for leaving the party.”

Valleyheart

was entirely self-written, produced and engineered in band member Lum’s home studio in Sherman Oaks. Their focus track “Natural” was originally written in 2017 during a trip to Big Bear, CA with producer Bob Curtin, with the band sharing, “Unlike many others, the demo stood the test of time and made it to the writing room for the new EP, Valleyheart. We initially struggled to write the lyrics, so to remedy that, we brought on our Ex-Tour Manager/Buddy, Andrew Sedo as a co-writer. After many renditions, the song was ultimately written about dead weight and the relief felt once shed. »

Furthering their euphonious energy with lyrical bliss, Private Island didn’t just stop there. Their latest EP offers seven tunes of authentic and rather unapologetic alt/rock. Displaying their unique creative narrative with “Your Call”, a tune about the unavoidable helplessness of losing a job, and “Trippin”, describing the rather hilarious tale of a carefree roommate, Private Island’s diverse and quite unique musical capability creates contagious chemistry like no other.

GANZ, A.K.A Jordy Saämena is an Amsterdam-based producer/DJ extraordinaire who developed his masterful blend of hip-hop and electronica from a young age. Over time, GANZ’s sound has evolved, seeing him explore new territories and experiment with indie, pop and avant-garde music. His latest releases showcase his time spent playing with a multitude of genres and ambient soundscapes, creating something that is truly unique to GANZ.

In collaboration with Canadian duo Beach Season, comprised of Sam Avant and Simon Blitzer, GANZ unveils “Damage”. This latest partnership has involved international cooperation like no other. Bringing the lyrical ingenuity to life, Beach Season’s euphoric vocals pair seamlessly with lavish lofi beats. They explain, “The lyrics for “Damage” were inspired by the notion of mindless self-indulgence, even at the cost of one’s own well-being. The main root of the song centres around catharsis – a release that Sam and Simon felt even as they composed the lyrics. We have all experienced the need to be self-destructive in order to move past trauma or feel emotion.”

Taking inspiration from 90’s hip-hop and R&B elements, GANZ has developed euphonious musical elements like no other, adding a dimensional feel to “Damage”. Offering bulging basslines, echoing melodies and pulsing rhythmic sounds, this single is set to soar in success. With over 200,000 monthly listeners, his synth-focused productions and remixes helped usher in a new era of electronic music. With streaming numbers in the millions, we’re set to see huge things from GANZ and future collaborative opportunities in the coming months.

Star2 feat HoodTrophy Bino

New single and video « Go! »

Spotify

“Are you feelin’ it?” Star2 asks on « Go! », the first single from his upcoming

New Me

album. Bringing a flash-fire of summer heat, the song has that West Coast sound and sensibility that combines brash notes, old school hip-hop aggression, trap, and a relentless kick drum that pushes you up from the verses to the chorus. Trap and retro late 90s/early 2000 hip-hop sounds, along with distorted 808s, kicks, claps, trap hats – a hyped up clicking rhythm! The result is a hype, pulsating street dancing anthem for extreme skateboarding in Venice Beach, and perfect for blaring at block parties, beaches, and skate parks all summer long.

Eleven year old stand-out Jake Familton swoops down into the bowl where Star2 and Bino are singing and being filmed, catches air off the lip and roars back down. “It’s a dream, a real life dream…” comments Bino looking at the first takes of the video with him and Star2 cruising in classic Low Rider cars with dancing from the famous Tommy the Clown and his T Squad.

Says Star2, “We’re going to show you how the West Coast, California people be doin’ it!” “We’re gonna lit the city up! LA’s gonna be on FIRE because of us, man. Cali—for-nia!! We’re gonna switch the game up…me and Bino…HoodTrophy Bino!”

Bino replies, “The kids are the dopest part!” referring to the gang of young extreme skateboarders flying off the lip of the bowls at the famous Venice Beach skate park who spontaneously became part of the video and began chanting « Go! Go! Go! » from the song.

Star2 is an Asian-American singer, songwriter and rapper who seamlessly blends pop, R&B and hip-hop for an enthralling immersion of sound. Raised in inauspicious circumstances, Star2 takes influence from overcoming his life struggles, creating music that is bold, high-spirited and soulful.

Star2 is a true survivor. Born into a refugee camp in Thailand, his family walked over 500 miles through the jungle to escape Burmese soldiers when they attacked and burned down their village. As Karen’s (Kuh-ren), a minority group that the Myanmar government has tried to destroy, Star2 (and his family) has faced immense adversity and racial opposition for generations. With no father or mother by his side, his grandmother was chosen in a lottery to be able to migrate to the United States and at the age of six years old, took him to San Diego where he began his new life. Unfortunately it wasn’t an easy one, as a young kid living in the inner city, his family struggled financially and he lived with an uncle who was addicted to drugs. Adapting to living in a new world filled with cars, electricity and paved roads, he was overwhelmed and overstimulated. Star2 found solace, however, turning to music as a teen, learning to rap, sing, write and perform. With a diverse set of influences including Justin Bieber, Tyga, Chris Brown, and more, he developed his own musical style complete with winning hooks, rich harmonies, and distinctly progressive R&B soundscapes.

Since 2020, the prolific songwriter has released a series of genre-bending singles with superstar producer Chico Bennett (Prince, Madonna, Lady Gaga, the Killers, Britney Spears) that have entranced audiences worldwide. His collaborations with acclaimed rappers Luh Kel, MarMar Oso, YSN Flow, $tupid Young, and Lil Poppa have gained him further recognition as an artist on the rise.

His most recent

Real Life

EP is a collection of six tracks profiling relatable themes such as love, loss and struggle. The leading single « I Wanna Get F’d Up » features acclaimed rapper Luh Kel and narrates heartbreak, abandonment, and disillusionment. Star2 paints the scene of painful relationship dynamics that is highly relatable and emotive. The single is an emotional exorcism complete with an infectious French horn melody, somber lyrics, and soul-infused vocals over a prominent hip hop beat. While in the title track “Real Life”, Star2 collaborates with Jacksonville, Florida’s Lil Poppa for a candid and raw account of their experiences growing up in inner city poverty. The haunting ballad is filled with rich layers of drums and bass, with the despair being highlighted by distorted 808’s and trap drums, creating the feeling of desperation and deprivation along the backdrop of violence. « Run Away », Star2’s staggering “conscious rap” release, documents the crushing social and environmental catastrophes that plague our world, including the horrific invasion in Ukraine. Part religious testimony, part philosopher’s insight, Star2 directs us to consider what the rest of the world is facing and how they are suffering. The acoustic guitar song begins with a haunting arpeggiating guitar intro that flows into Star2’s almost spoken narrative about the world’s ills and his own hollow suffering.

Star2’s spirited soul and authentic delivery truly resonates with his generation, providing solace and an outlet for the challenges faced by many today. With millions of streams and views to date and upcoming projects with Soulja Boy, $tupid Young, HoodTrophy Bino, and Lil Poppa, Star2 is a compelling force.

The Moss share their new single « Insomnia »

The Moss

New single « Insomnia »

Spotify

Entitled « Insomnia », the catchy track is a « bittersweet song about passing the point in a relationship where you can’t sleep at night when you are away from them, » proclaims the band. « Insomnia » features explosive melodies and melodic guitar riffs soaring over driving basslines for a wildly addictive sonic journey.

In a musical landscape with fewer boundaries than ever before,

THE MOSS

’s exuberant brand of alternative rock spans genres, eras, and even oceans.

The Utah-via-Hawaii group was born on the shores of Oahu in 2015, as teenage buddies Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) picked up a gig serenading diners at local taco trucks in between surf sessions. Naturally, their songs took shape in the spirit of the island, imbued with the joyfulness and breeziness of reggae culture yet cut with the introspection and communal spirit of mainland indie acts like Pinegrove and Cage the Elephant.

By 2018, the duo had grown, enlisting Willie Fowler on drums and Addison’s brother Brierton on bass, and traded in beaches for the Great Salt Lake. They hit the stage at spots like local cornerstone Kilby Court, live-testing their modern-indie-meets-’60s-blues with a wide-eyed exuberance that translated effortlessly into their 2019 self-released debut,

Bryology

.

Colored by the sound of Stratocasters jamming through reverb-cranked Fender amps, all backed by bouncy rhythms,

Bryology

marked a big step for the still-young quartet – but, true to The Moss’s nature, was still hard-coded with a DIY ethos. “We basically had no budget,” James remembers fondly. “We bought some nice mics and an interface and I ended up learning how to mix

while

we were recording.”

The follow-up, 2021’s

Kentucky Derby

, brought a more aspirational, blue-sky tilt to the foundation they’d laid on

Bryology

, expanding the group’s sonic arsenal while keeping the relatable lyrical style and sun-soaked sentiment at the forefront. “I’m really proud of how we’ve evolved as a band over time,” Addison Sharp says. “It feels like we’ve taken every different influence and mashed them all together to create something that feels really special.”

Bryology

seemed like a collection of separate songs we put together to make an album, whereas

Kentucky Derby

is a similar thought and story coming together to collectively make a more cohesive album,” adds Brierton Sharp says, noting the album’s tracks are sneakily arranged in pairs of two that seamlessly flow into one another. “Each song could be listened to on its own, or you could listen to them all and get a broader sense of our intention.”

No matter how listeners choose to interact with The Moss’s music, the band just hopes they feel

something

. It’s that kinetic relationship between band and audience that makes their live performances – including a pitch-perfect recent set for Audiotree – so compelling. “No matter what we do, we want to make sure the songs are fun to play live,” says Fowler. “We pride ourselves on being a band people

want

to see live.”

“There’s something special that happens when you get an immediate reaction to a song,” says James. “Whether it’s during a live show or even just a songwriting session, if there’s a reaction from people in the room, you know you’re on the right track.”

Upcoming shows:

July 15th – Denver, CO – Lost Lake

July 16th – Colorado Springs, CO – Lulu’s

July 23rd – Seattle, WA – Capitol Hill Block Party

July 30th – Sandpoint ID w/ Mt. Joy

Sept 10th – Hurricane UT – Superbloom fest

« Out In Style »

Vivons “Sentimental” !
