New Ep « I’m Glad I Found U Pt.1 »

GANZ, A.K.A Jordy Saämena is an Amsterdam-based producer/DJ extraordinaire who developed his masterful blend of hip-hop and electronica from a young age. Over time, GANZ’s sound has evolved, seeing him explore new territories and experiment with indie, pop and avant-garde music.

His new four-track EP,

I’m Glad I Found U Pt.1

, is the result of GANZ delving into lost projects and realising that some of them deserved to be finished. With a plethora of songs to work with, the artist spent months reworking tracks, sharing “This was one of the most fun projects I’ve been working on the last years and gave me so many vibes I decided to make a series of EP’s like this. That’s why this one is called Pt.1.” The EP is built around pounding electronic beats with a glimpse of hip hop and elements of earlier UK/Glasgow sounds, beats and vibes.

Intro track “Shelter” featuring vocals by Ebony Morrison/Chase Zara, from Australia, sets the tone for the entirety of the EP. Radiating a kaleidoscope of bright synths, the ethereal track builds into a soaring, euphonic atmosphere. “Paper Pane Borders” was originally written back in 2017 and is the anthem of this EP. A fast-paced, energetic tune which is certain to lift the mood at any party.

I’m Glad I Found U Pt.1,

is the beginning of a new chapter for GANZ. He confides, “New year, new vibes and I’m ready to start again with a clean sheet. The EP carries so many big emotions, so it’s definitely one to play when getting in the party mood.”

Kevin vividly recalls his first memory of music, listening to Lisa Stansfield’s “All Around The World” from his car seat as a baby. He went on to obsess over the likes of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, and Smokey Robinson. Following his high school years at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, he earned a scholarship and degree from Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music. Settling in Atlanta, he initially made waves behind-the-scenes, penning hit-charting tunes for the likes of Trey Songz, Toni Braxton, Tank, and many more.

It’s horny but melancholy, like a cry-wank

”, says Heff. A quintessential rebound relationship anthem, the track is drenched in yearning, sensuality and cheeky optimism – an ode of hope to all the sad bois, queers, misfits and everyone in between.

“

The track is about an older woman called Jane who I was dating in my early 20s. I’d just had my heart broken for the first time and she was the one who patched it back up again. She sort of took my hand and told me it would be ok, without really putting any pressure on me or wanting anything more than I was able to give. It was a fun but messy time in my life. Sometimes I look back and wonder if I’d met her now things might have developed into something more lasting. Right person, wrong time, maybe.”

Naming iconic songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young as their main influences, Heff thrives on being able to experiment with her music and the concepts and emotions she’s able to portray through her songwriting. The London-based artist draws in her listener by telling stories with expressionism and relatability but with an angstful yet roguish honesty at its core.

“I’ve always loved words, so songs with a strong focus on lyrics and storytelling had a huge impact on me growing up. A huge part of songwriting is trying to make sense of your life experiences and finding a resolve or a perfect cadence to it all. Wrapping it up in a 3 minute pop song makes it seem less overwhelming and like you can finally understand and make peace with it all. I also loved any artists with a queer or androgynous edge to their songwriting, like The xx, Frank Ocean and St Vincent, and of course Prince and Bowie.”

Born and raised in Aberdeen, Heff has been playing in bands since she was a teenager – mostly made up of straight boys with an indie sound, in keeping with that classic Scottish tradition. Having moved to London in her early 20s, she formed an electro-pop duo that went on to amass a decent following.

“I always wanted to do something a bit more queer and less straight male. That cis het take on swagger always bored me. After I left the duo, I went solo and I became more focused than ever on making the kind of music that I wanted to hear growing up, from people that looked and sounded like me. I started writing music from a more personal place, exploring themes like loss, sexuality and telling the stories of the people and community I’ve found in East London.”

As an artist, Heff wants to combine queer culture with themes that are universal and just part of the human condition.

“I’m passionate about achieving more visibility for masc presenting queer people. I think representation matters for all of us and it’s empowering to see yourself depicted in pop culture.”

Inspiré entre autre par Radiohead et Pink Floyd, Aïtone donne enfin une suite à son premier album sortie en 2018. La Corse ancrée sous la peau, aimanté par la folk, la Britpop, et le rock progressif, Antoine, auteur compositeur et musicien que l’on découvre sous l’étiquette Aïtone, nous emporte avec sa musique, ode à l’enfance, à notre innocence, à nos rêves, à nos peurs, à nos vérités.

La voix charismatique d’Aïtone plane sur les guitares et les nappes de synthés. Il s’offre le luxe par moment de pointe aiguës donnant à son interprétation un style unique et immédiatement reconnaissable.

Après avoir dévoilé le clip d’Inner Child en décembre, Aïtone sort son nouveau single Nightmare accompagné d’une vidéo acoustique. De quoi plonger dans ses plus beaux cauchemars.

La musique d’Aïtone parle de l’enfance, évidemment, l’enfance perdue, et sa naïveté oubliée pourtant nécessaire à notre survie. Dans ses chansons, Aïtone évoque ses doutes, des questions personnelles s’il en est, mais toujours avec cette volonté que chacun puisse y trouver une force qui lui est propre. Intensément lyriques, et flamboyants, les titres d’Aïtone sont profondément ancrés dans le rock, celui de Thom Yorke, des Beatles et d’Arcade Fire pour ne citer que trois références parmi le rock anglo-saxon dont Aïtone se réclame, sans oublier des influences françaises, de Bashung à Ben Mazué.

Pour l’enregistrement de son second album Follow, Aïtone a fait appel à François Poitou, arrangeur au sonorités originellement plutôt tournées vers le jazz, et qui apporte aux compositions un souffle et une ampleur nouvelles. Nous retrouvons aussi sur le disque Benjamin Colin et Quentin Gouraud à la batterie et aux guitares, et François Poitou à la basse.

L’album Follow est une ode à l’enfance, à notre innocence, à nos rêves, à nos peurs, à nos vérités. Il installe Aïtone parmi les meilleurs songwriters français mais l’impose également comme un chanteur à la voix exceptionnelle. Après Inner Child, un nouveau single, Nightmare, est à découvrir. Kandia Kora est né Griot. En Afrique, le griot, au-delà de l’artiste, est le témoin des traditions ancestrales Manding, de leur musique et de leur poésie. Il est le ciment de la société. La Kora, Kandia l’a donc dans le nom, mais surtout dans le sang. Le sang que son père lui a légué. L’évidence frappe dès les premières notes, dès qu’il se met à jouer, elle s’impose à nous.

Très vite repéré par Polydor, label d’Universal, il travaille dès lors sur un projet d’album et construit pierre après pierre le pont qu’il imagine entre l’Afrique et l’Europe. Les soutiens de Keblack, Sidiki Diabate et du rappeur MHD le conforte dans sa capacité à offrir au monde une vision plus urbaine de son art.

En mai 2019, sort le premier single de son album : Mateme, puis le très remarqué «Seul ce Soir» en feat avec Black M. Son expédition dans nos cœurs ne fait que commencer.

Ce morceau pop et cosmique est une déclaration d’amour d’un satellite à un être humain.

En surface, c’est une petite critique de l’hyper surveillance des populations et de l’accumulation d’informations et de data sur chacun d’entre nous. Il n’y a qu’une entité

amoureuse qui serait purement motivée à accumuler nos photos, analyser nos goûts, nous géolocaliser partout, etc…

L’intelligence seule dans l’espace finit par capturer l’être humain et lui faire l’amour dans le cosmos.

Plus en profondeur, c’est une chanson sur l’amour non réciproque et la folie qu’elle procure. C’est le sujet fil rouge de l’album : le fantasme amoureux.

Satellite, c’est aussi la Lune qui déclare sa flamme à la Terre et qui rêve de fusionner avec elle à force de lui tourner autour.

Avec cette chanson, Loa Mercury explore la variété française dans des sonorités électriques, magnétiques, galactiques.

Le clip a été réalisé par Martin Schrepel, jeune réalisateur très talentueux qui sait donner forme à des atmosphères cosmiques et magnétiques.

Le clip a été entièrement tourné à la pellicule, en 35mm, et s’inspire de Barbarella, un film de science-fiction érotique datant de 1968, avec Jane Fonda dans le premier rôle. Loa Mercury est dans son vaisseau spatial, et découvre qu’une mystérieuse créature rouge est à bord du cockpit. Un petit bijou rétro-futuriste conçu avec passion et précaution par Martin Schrepel et son équipe.

Derrière cette carapace androgyne se cache une pop velours, sensible et entêtante.

Elle explore les multiples possibilités de la variété française en se questionnant sur l’amour, le genre, l’univers, les émotions et les relations. En résultent des chansons intimes et aériennes, qui bousculent et attendrissent.

Loa Mercury embarque la chanson française dans une dimension cosmique, poétique et fédératrice.

Passionnée par la musique depuis son enfance passée en Bourgogne, Loa écrit et compose ses chansons au piano.

D’abord passionnée par la musique romantique (Chopin, Debussy) et moderne (Saint-Saens, Satie, Fauré), Loa se tourne ensuite progressivement vers la pop et les musiques actuelles et urbaines.
