“The music is definitely inspired by ‘70s movies, but also by obscure ‘70s libraries music vinyl which is what music supervisors were using as background music in movies, advertisements, TV shows etc…but also nowadays highly sought after by music enthusiasts and hip-hop producers looking for new materials to sample. I don’t have specific scenes in mind, but it’s like I’m trying to write the soundtrack of an imaginary suspense film from the past.”

The video was filmed at the Five & Dime in Saint John, New Brunswick by Matt Brown and directed and edited by Lauchlan Ough. Produced by Apryll Aileen and Jennifer Irving with creative direction from Amelia Bailey, the video highlights colourful dance scenes and the sultry experience of a night out.

Featuring Danielle Roberton, Jerry Burchill and Elephant Skeletons.

The chorus hook “I’m not bad but I do bad things” plays on the desire of living in the moment and having fun but not reading into things too seriously.

Paying homage to seductive pop Queens Madonna and Rihanna, this jam makes you want to sip tequila, dance and tease everyone in the club.

Written between Los Angeles and New York and recorded between Atlantic Canada and the United Kingdom – Aileen debuted the single in Manhattan at the

MONDO.NYC

conference on October 11th at the Map Room at the Bowery Electric.

Aileen had a successful summer tour, playing at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto and headlining the stage for the province of New Brunswick at the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara Falls. She is preparing for the full release of her album “Bad Things” early next year.

Aileen transcends genres, creating her own undefinable sound with influences coming from pop, electronic, folk and R&B. She doesn’t imitate – she creates.

A hybrid of two polarities, she blends melodic songwriting and vocal tones from artists such as Miley Cyrus and Adele but with the storytelling edge of Stevie Nicks.

From performing in London, Hollywood, New York, Toronto and more, Aileen is no stranger to the music world. Her band in Los Angeles includes Toshi Yanagi and Jimmy Earl (players for Jimmy Kimmel Live!).

Miranda says of the piece:

“This is my love song to Dwayne, but it also is a nod to my childhood. I remember sitting through pay-per-view matches when I was young, sandwiched between my brother and his friends, and wanting so badly to hang out with the big kids. During lockdown, I fell down the Dwayne rabbit-hole because of my Dad’s recommendation to watch Hobbs and Shaw. I now know more about Dwayne’s life than I ever would’ve imagined; every line of my song is a reference to his life and career. I may not have started writing I Love You, Dwayne as a super-fan, but I can certainly say I ended up as one. The answer to your next question is yes, I do love Dwayne.”

Miranda Joan is a Canadian soul-pop singer and songwriter born in Montreal and raised in Vancouver. Currently based in Brooklyn, Joan maintains strong roots in Canada. Joan divides her time between countries and it was her university studies in Jazz that originally brought her to New York, a city whose grittiness and intensity has influenced her artistry as profoundly as her bi-coastal upbringing. The fluidity that came with growing up along the Pacific Ocean in Vancouver and the joy-de-vivre and creativity that Montreal exuded continue to shape Joan personally, artistically and spiritually. Both her French and English backgrounds have made their way into her writing, which orients itself around story and lyrics and is largely influenced by her reverence for soul and pop music.

Miranda Joan was selected as one of First Up with RBCxMusic Emerging Artists in 2021, shared the virtual stage at CMW and has received radio airplay in Vancouver and Los Angeles. Joan has performed on national tours and played sold-out shows as well as headlined well-known NYC venues. In 2019, she performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival with the Orchestra National de Jazz de Montreal, led by Sly5thAve in a tribute to Dr. Dre, and she is a co-host and co-founder of Brooklyn’s Femme Jam (NYC’s first all-female led jam session) which is a community initalitve to create a women-lead space with an emphasis on female musicians that fosters inclusively and creates community. Artist mentorship has been an important through-line in Joan’s career and for the past eight years she has been a music mentor with the non-profit SAY: The Stuttering Association for the Young where she works with youth 8-18 who stutteer.

Joan has shared the stage singing background for high profile artists including Andy Grammar, Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton), Christopher Jackson (Hamilton), Surf Mesa, Lorde and Shawn Mendes.

Chloe Florence is a euphoric singer-songwriter hailing from Montreal, Canada. Avec As A Free Man, pour la première fois, GranGill dévoile un titre avec un refrain écrit en anglais, langue universelle. Ce titre dure 3″50, 3″50 de pur bonheur diffusant un message de joie et d’espoir.

Le groupe GranGill a été formé il y a six ans, par deux potes Manu et Christof, qui fort de leur complicité, et du même goût pour les mots et la langue française, ont su imposer leur style entre variété et pop française.

Ce duo nous emmène, bercé par des mélodies parfois douces et enivrantes, mais aussi dans des sons beaucoup plus rythmés. Au fil des années ils ont su séduire un public de fans de tout âge qui apprécient la qualité de leurs textes mais aussi l’efficacité et la simplicité des mélodies qui restent en tête…Ils ont parcouru différents pays pour y faire découvrir leur univers, ils ont décidé d’entamer une tournée en France en 2023.

Actuellement, ils finissent l’enregistrement de leur huitième album dont la sortie est prévue pour dans quelques semaines. On peut déjà découvrir un premier extrait qui donne le ton et la couleur de l’album, et qui reçoit du public et de leurs fans un très bon accueil ! Ce single est né de la collaboration entre GranGill et Johann Perrier (MS Project) qui, à cette occasion, a arrangé et mixé le titre. Il a su trouver la couleur attendue par les deux acolytes du groupe. As a free man a été écrit comme un hymne aux libertés, après deux ans de restrictions dans notre pays et dans le monde.
