Casii Stephan is a soul pop/rock artist hailing from Minnesota. Now based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the impassioned songstress evokes subtle vibrato notes and roller-coaster-like melodies, which immediately grab the listener, while her emotional lyrics share intimate stories. She has been compared to the likes of Florence Welch, Fiona Apple and Carole King, as her vocal timbre possesses a full and warm quality.

Stephan’s voice is fierce and fearless, but this was not always the case. She grew up shy and afraid of her voice until she started writing songs on the family piano in South St. Paul when she was 16. In music, she discovered something extraordinary that allowed her to transcend everyday life and find a deeper sense of self. Stephan moved to Tulsa in 2014 with the intent to give up her pursuit of a music career, however with a little encouragement from a friend, she continued her journey and started releasing music. Her songs were promptly applauded by critics and have since been racking up a number of awards, as well as garnering acclaim from media and fans across the globe.

An underlying theme throughout Stephan’s music is hope, she explains, “Its such a cliched word and yet there are so many layers to it. Hope keeps us alive. It keeps us moving. But it also feels flighty some days like a pixie that does what it wants. But it’s not a pixie. It’s more like the air we breathe. Some days it’s presence is stronger than we realize and some days we forget in our day-to-day lives that it’s there… keeping us moving forward”. Her music combines her love for the storytelling elements of Disney ballads and the bold, brilliance of The White Stripes, as well as the soul-wrenching R&B melodies of H.E.R.

Casii Stephan has seen success both obtaining and being nominated for multiple awards from the likes of Independent Music Awards, Hollywood Music in Media Awards and USA Songwriting Competition to name a few. She also heads a female fronted festival entitled MisFEST in Tulsa, that has gained recognition both locally and nationally. In 2020, Casii pivoted to a live stream music morning show, “Coffee with Casii”, which landed her performances at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, live stream edition. Her pandemic-themed song and music video, “These Hard Days” was a finalist at NYC’s Oniros Film Festival. The singer-songwriter was profiled in Billboard and recently named as NPR’s “slingshot artists to watch in 2022”.She is set to perform an official SXSW showcase and just released a soulful rock anthem against domestic abuse, “Already Gone”.

Annika and The Forest a sorti il y a quelques mois son troisième album Même La Nuit sur les labels Whatever/Kuroneko.

Annika and The Forest a déjà dévoilé trois extraits de Même La Nuit. Après Pretence, You and Me et Thinking Crazy, elle nous régale aujourd’hui avec le titre phare du disque. Dans la vidéo de Même La Nuit, Annika apparaît sous la forme d’un personnage au visage tout blanc qui découvre une pièce vide avec une boule à facettes. Elle commence à danser toute seule jusqu’à ce qu’elle rencontre un autre personnage blanc lui aussi qui lui ressemble étrangement. Elle se demande : l’amour est-il simplement une projection de soi, ou la personne idéale vient-elle de se révéler juste devant elle… ?

On retrouve sur ce disque les musiciennes qui accompagnent la carrière d’Annika : Edith Fambuena (guitares, claviers) et Zoé Hochberg (programmations, batterie) qui sont elles aussi allées enregistrer dans le pays natal d’Annika pour ce titre aux couleurs franco-suédoises.

Annika and The Forest est de retour avec l’album Même la nuit, un titre poétique qui évoque aussi bien la littérature française moderne du XXe siècle que la musique d’Alain Bashung. Un titre qui laisse déjà entrevoir la lumière dans les ténèbres – ce vers quoi nous emmène ce troisième album d’Annika Grill, qui a trouvé une nouvelle potion magique et pop.

Même la nuit a demandé trois années à la musicienne. Trois années contre vents et marées, où il s’agissait avant tout de détourner les ondes négatives pour trouver de bonnes vibrations, prendre de la distance quant à ses compositions, se lancer dans de nouveaux challenges et prendre le temps de les relever.

Ainsi, ces nouvelles chansons éclairent une forêt parfois envahie par la brume, parfois secouée par les orages, mais qui persiste à se dresser dans sa végétation luxuriante. Riche, la pop d’Annika and the Forest l’est de plus en plus, en mesurant cependant chaque note, chaque arrangement, épousant la loi du less is more sans oublier d’être accessible.

C’est avec ce troisième album qu’Annika Grill signe un manifeste de pop catchy, à la fois exigeante et accessible, comme pouvaient l’être les tubes des Cardigans dans les années 90.

Cashma is an R&B artist raised in the small town of Barnesville, GA. As the only child of her black dad and white mom, Cashma grew up seeing both sides of the world and often felt like she didn’t fit in. Seeking solace in the music of one of her biggest inspirations Sade, she gradually learnt how to be unapologetically herself and her music is a reflection of that. Moving to Atlanta at a young age, the introspective introvert has now created a space and sound all of her own.

Listening to the album is like reading personal diary entries from Cashma. She unravels stories from her own life, such as “My First Apartment” which touches on the mixed emotions of being alone for the first time and “I Dress For Me” which speaks about dismissing other people’s judgemental attitudes. Her honest storytelling lyrics give us a glimpse into her life, creating a strong connection between both the artist and her listeners.

The seven-track release is the musical embodiment of the teenage experience in all its confusing, messy, exhilarating glory.

Indie, dream pop artist Ryan Wright creates songs that don’t make sense on paper—ethereal, otherworldly and at times unsettling, underscoring how surreal and disconnected from reality the experience of transitioning into adulthood can be. Born in the suburbs of Northern Virginia in 2002, she began writing songs and performing live alongside her singer/songwriter dad at the age of 11. By the time she was a teenager, she was working in the studio and on stage alongside some of her biggest musical influences.

A Dream I’ll Forget

, is the half-forgotten soundtrack of a memory: the music blasting through the gritty speaker of your ex’s beat up car, windows rolled down, flying fast down a familiar highway. The motif of teenage intensity serves as the EP’s consistent through-line—the internal monologue of a person experiencing the highs and lows of « firsts » that resonates among listeners. Recurring images of cars, parties, and cell phones serve as a reminder that ground the listener squarely in the world of teenage carnality but are juxtaposed with references to the sky, dreams, and music, pointing to something more ephemeral -and more eternal.

Lyrically, Wright hints at traumas that are both intimate and individual, but the sentiments are open to interpretation and can be applied universally. There’s a dark humor that undercuts that intensity—a winking acknowledgement of how trivial the vicissitudes of the teenage experience truly are despite how dire they may feel in the moment.

Focus track “T-shirt » is a near-universal experience: in the wake of a devastating breakup, when everything else is crumbling to nothing, there remains a physical element, a tangible piece of evidence left behind that provides nostalgia, security, and regret all at once. The item in question is a ratty old band tee that still smells like an ex–a mundane item that takes on the profound significance of a life raft in a sea of heartbreak. Trading in her signature synths for a beat-up Hofner bass, the production is built around a bassline that, as Wright puts it, “sounded like how I was feeling. » The track builds subtly, layering on sounds until the bridge explodes into a cacophony that reflects the chaos of emotion represented in the lyrics. « T-shirt » is the song you’ll play on repeat every time you experience a new heartbreak…or just want to relive an old one.

Vanessa Philippe nous offre avec Si ce-soir-là un nouvel extrait de son l’album Soudain les oiseaux, disponible sur toutes les plateformes digitales.

Soudain Les Oiseaux, cinquième album de Vanessa Philippe, est un hommage à sa grande sœur disparue en août 2019. Auteure, compositrice et interprète, Vanessa écrit et compose pour la première fois la totalité des chansons. En contraste avec le sentiment de deuil, elle imagine des arrangements très pop, à tendance électro avec des instruments virtuels. Elle confie alors la réalisation à Pascal Parisot, en continuité avec l’album précédent, et le mixage à Angy Laperdrix (Mocke, Barbara Carlotti…).
