Hailing from the barrier islands of South Carolina, Andrew Christopher Rutherford Royal has a deep connection with the land and embodies a non-traditionalist’s interpretation of the eastern South. He writes Southern Gothic cameos which he weaves into often dark, Indie Americana. Turquoise M clôt sa trilogie acoustique avec le superbe clip d’A Mon Piano. Danseuse, pianiste, comédienne, Turquoise M écrit et compose une musique entre ombre et lumière, morceaux dénudés à l’extrême, sans fard, ni artifice.

Inspirée par des artistes comme Barbara, Véronique Sanson ou Ben Mazué, la musicienne nourrit ses textes de son histoire, avec pudeur et sensibilité.

Après Ce Célibat et 15 plus tard, Turquoise M nous offre A Mon Piano, ode amicale à son instrument qu’elle remercie de son soutien. Comme un passage de l’ombre à la lumière, sa musique est une révélation poétique, un réenchantement.

Réalisée par Pénélope Marcadé, la vidéo d’A Mon Piano dévoile les talents expressifs de danseuse de Turquoise M qui dévoile en images une véritable performance physique et musicale.

Turquoise M joue du piano, fait de la danse contemporaine et du théâtre depuis toute petite. A 9 ans, après la mort de son père, elle écrit et compose une chanson qui sera la première d’une longue série. Restant longtemps discrète sur son activité d’écriture et de composition, elle poursuit des études littéraires, puis part à l’étranger, intègre une école de théâtre, et à la suite d’un accident qui l’immobilise pendant 6 mois, se retrouve forcée d’admettre que la musique est son point d’ancrage depuis toujours, qu’il faut donc y revenir et surtout, s’y lancer.

En 2022, un an après avoir pris cette décision aussi vertigineuse qu’évidente, elle sort deux premiers singles ; l’un (Ce célibat), parle de célibat avec beaucoup de second degré l’autre (15 ans plus tard) parle de la mort avec une grande authenticité.

Avec À mon piano, Turquoise M clôt aujourd’hui ce premier cycle de piano-voix très épurés en s’adressant directement à l’instrument qui l’accompagne depuis l’enfance. Personnifiant son piano dans le rôle du meilleur ami, elle le remercie d’avoir été présent et inspirant à chaque grande étape de sa vie. Pour mettre en images ce sentiment de reconnaissance, elle a fait un clip où elle évolue dans un décor abstrait et sans limites qui représente toutes ces soirées passées seule dans un espace-temps infini où les mots et les mélodies lui ont été inspirées un peu malgré elle, comme par magie.

C’est aussi un hommage à la présence de la lumière qui est toujours venue s’insérer au creux de la nuit, et plus généralement dans les moments plus sombres de sa vie. Davantage confiante et affirmée, elle se présente désormais comme fière de l’héritage musical qu’elle a reçu (Barbara, Sanson, Ben Mazué) et dans la continuité duquel elle a souhaité inscrire ses premières chansons.

Heureuse de s’être d’abord révélée au public avec des chansons brutes et « dénudées », elle travaille maintenant avec Colin Russeil pour trouver les arrangements qui permettront d’habiller au mieux les morceaux de son premier EP, dont la sortie est prévue pour 2023. Elle promet plus de rythme, de chœurs ou de synthés, mais toujours autant d’émotion dans la voix.

Baez shares, “I worked with two amazing female songwriters/producers on this song and concept, Meghan Kabir and I really dove into the idea of Joni Mitchell’s River as the song that sparks a heartbreaking memory. We then worked with HARLOE ie: Jessica Karpov on production and making the song sound like a classic christmas song, with a melancholic nature like the snow was falling down slowly throughout the entire song.”

The somber song shimmers with delicate melodies and glowing harmonies, as Baez puts her own spin on a traditional holiday song, explaining, “I love getting into my feelings during the holiday season. I wanted this track to remind people of a classic christmas song but with a twist.”

traite de façon poétique des relations d’emprise. Dans ce type de relation, la violence y est cachée et des états hypnotiques sont créés par l’utilisation d’injonctions contradictoires. Dans le clip, la volonté a été d’approcher ces dynamiques de façon métaphorique comme le fait le texte de la chanson. Le clip se place dans le décor d’un cercle de jeu, où les personnages sont tour à tour les joueurs ou l’objet du jeu et l’enjeu.

Danse, dessin, musique, chant… toute forme de création artistique est vitale pour Claire, c’est son moyen d’expression depuis l’enfance, qui la voyait tournée vers son monde intérieur. OZAK est un jeune artiste qui ne laisse rien au hasard ! Il grandit dans une famille de musiciens et respire la musique dès son plus jeune âge en passant beaucoup de temps dans le studio de la maison familiale. A la fin de son adolescence, Ozak sait qu’il veut faire de la musique son métier. Déterminé et autodidacte, il maîtrise rapidement la production musicale et perfectionne sa pratique du piano et de la guitare.

For the video for “Heal”, Waiting For Smith sat in a studio meditating for 8 hours throughout the day, while out on a nearby street passers-by were asked the question: What is it that you would like to heal? They were then invited to write their answers on his body.

The themes of

Trying Not To Try

are centred around mental health and becoming. If that sounds like heavy going, it most certainly isn’t; Lloyd tackles these subjects with lightness and optimism, with pin-sharp melodies and hooks that are instant earworms. The songwriter shares, “Over the past few years I’ve been on a real search to explore my mind while pursuing music, beginning with a year in bed after an accident. I read and watched everything I could to be inspired. I tried many forms of therapy and healing in search of a calmer approach to life’s ups and downs – realising I couldn’t control my life but I could control how I reacted to it. The EP came out of those early discoveries of philosophy, meditation and The Tao Te Ching. This all helped to find out what I was looking for: Ask for it, and then let go of the outcome. And that is the meaning of Trying Not To Try”.

They were then invited to write their answers on his body. People from all nationalities, all backgrounds and around 17 languages were involved. The idea was that a non-judgemental and still presence would present the perfect canvas to be written on, and by being listened to and heard these volunteers were able to let go of what they didn’t need.

Waiting For Smith is Harry Lloyd, who decided to dedicate his life to music after breaking his back aged 24 and spending a year in recovery. He had always been musical – Lloyd began writing songs aged 7 and has been playing drums and piano since the same age – but finding himself bedbound for a year he learned the guitar and, after finding comfort in poetry, started writing songs with a renewed sense of purpose. Once mobile again Lloyd formed Waiting for Smith, named after endlessly waiting for their original drummer Smith, who always failed to show up.

Since debuting his music in 2019, Waiting for Smith has received millions of Spotify plays and landed radio play on over 190 stations around the world, including by Huw Stephens on Radio 1, Dermot O’Leary and Jo Whiley on Radio 2, Tom Robinson on 6 Music, Maz Tappuni on Radio X, Flux Fm in Germany, Radio Doble Neuve in Lima, Peru and KROQ and KISS FM in the USA and Radio One in India. He’s received over 2000 syncs internationally, from the US to Finland and Indonesia. WFS tracks have provided the sonics for the Japanese Grand Prix and a big Netflix Series ‘Vis A Vis (Locked Up)’, to the standout soap in Germany and one of the biggest TV commercials in Spain, the Christmas ad for El Corte Ingles. He has toured the UK and internationally, both as a headliner and a support.
